Intermediate football has been boosted following the decision by Finn Harps to re-join the Ulster Senior League.
The league has experienced difficulties over the years with a number of teams opting to drop down to the Junior ranks.
However, the league is still stacked with quality sides, and Harps returning will only serve to boost it further.
League representatives released the following statement, “The Ulster Senior League Executive Committee are delighted to announce that Finn Harps Reserves will compete in this season’s league which gets underway this weekend.
“After a number of recent meetings between Finn Harps Directors and ourselves, the League of Ireland club have decided to enter Intermediate football for the 2016/17 season.
“They will compete in this year’s 4 Lanterns Ulster Senior League along with fellow senior club Derry City , Cockhill Celtic ,Bonagee United, Letterkenny Rovers, Fanad United and Swilly Rovers.
Niall Callaghan Secretary of the League added, “This is great news for the league and we’re delighted that the senior team in the county has made this commitment and see the need for the retention of Intermediate football in the county.
“I’d also like to thank Finn Harps for their professionalism during our recent discussions and we look forward to working with them over the coming seasons.”
Finn Harps FC secretary John Campbell also released a statement on their return to the USL, “We’re delighted to be going back into the Ulster Senior League and look forward now to developing a positive working relationship with their executive.
“The management team for the Finn Harps Reserve side will be announced over the weekend.”
Mr Campbell said that due to the late entry the club would not have team taking part in the opening round of league games this Sunday.
