SPORTS: The annual AGM of the Letterkenny and District Darts league was held recently in the Glencar Inn Letterkenny ahead of the new 2016/17 season which starts on Wednesday 5th October.

There was one major change to the outgoing committee with Treasurer Dave McGowan stepping down to be replaced by Irish National Darts Organisation Chairman John O’Brien. Chairman of the league Martin McCloskey was successfully voted back into place as the league goes from strength to strength under his stewardship with Marian McDermott reclaiming her post as league Secretary.

Shane Buchanan and Nigel Hegarty make up the rest of the 2016/17 committee as Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary/PRO respectively.

Expressions of interest for new teams wishing to enter the league are being sought ahead of registration night on Wednesday 21st September in the Glencar Inn at 9pm. Chairman Martin McCloskey has said; “All new teams are welcome to join our growing league, irrespective of past experience or ability. With enough entrants, the league can be split into two divisions of A and B sides, and expressions are being sought from lapsed B league teams and anyone with an interest in throwing darts in the Letterkenny area, including pubs from outside the town with entries from pubs such as Wilkins Churchill and The Silver Tassie in recent years.”

Last seasons league saw 9 teams taking part and already indications are that this will grow further in the coming season.

Each side is allowed a maximum of one senior county player in a team of a maximum of six named players. A minimum of four is required to be named as each match consists of four ‘singles’ games and two ‘doubles’ games.

Entry fee per pub team is €100 and pubs are allowed to enter more than one team provided they can host such. Fee must be paid on registration night Wednesday 21st September.
