Gavin Corey wins the Letterkenny 24/7 triathlon

Race Reports :  Blacksod Standard Triathlon

The evergreen John Conaghan  fresh from his age group win in the middle distance championship.

A group traveled to Belmullet Co. Mayo  for the challenging Olympic race . John won his age group finishing fifth overall in a time of 2.25.27.  After rather than returning to his base in Dublin he came up to Letterkenny to  marshall at the club Duathlon. Eugene Mc gettigan raced in Mayo and Letterkenny. Eugene was third in his category on Saturday and fifteenth overall in a time of 2.35.36

In Portrush  Ita  Mc Gettigan  was sixth female in the sprint triathlon despite losing her goggles in rough sea conditions.

In nearby Benone Colin Dean was second in the difficult half marathon race

Club Duathlon

The club held a fund raising race on Sunday with all funds being used for the Kona World championship

entry   of  Aidan Callaghan. There was a mixture of triathlon club  members , other club members and interested local athletes.  The club is grateful for the use of O’Donnell Park by Saint Eunans Gaa Club and for Aura for the use of their facilities. Sean Mc Fadden was first club man home finishing second  to  Gavin Corey of Omagh Triathlon Club.

 

Fionnuala Larkin was first Woman home followed by Tatiana Weidemann a former member visiting from her native Germany.

As well as members taking part there was also a large group of volunteers who made the event possible.

Five K reports

Natasha Kelly dipped under the twenty minute mark in the 5K championship in Buncrana finishing  third woman. Rachel Stilvern continues to improve in her five k times as well finishing second  woman in the Kerrykeel five k.

 

Other news

Next weekend sees  another Iron Man event in Wales and the club wishes all entrants well. Gavin Crawford is off to Luxembourg representing the Irish defence  force in the  half Ironman  race.

Open water safety

There will not be any more Monday night swim sessions this year

If anyone wants to use Gartan lake   please enter from the heritage centre entrance point and please make sure you have a swim partner and swim buoy for personal safety. There is a club shed for changing and the lock code is available from any committee member.

Tuesday: Aura track – Track session   7.50 pm

Wednesday : Aura Pool – Swim session 8.00 pm

Thursday :   Long run Aura , meet at six thirty pm

 

Saturday : Aura club cycle 8.00 am

Sunday : Beginners  cycle 9.00 am
