Well known Letterkenny Businessman John Watson is heading to Amsterdam on Sunday to represent Ireland in the WDFPF European Championship Single Event in the Deadlift.

John Watson, of Watson Hire in Letterkenny, trains out of Rushe Fitness and has been powerlifting for 2 years.

He sees this as the peak of his Powerlifting career so far.

“I started training with Emmet in Rushe Fitness back in January, after a lay off due to injury. Since then we have focused on improving my strength and my mobility in the lifts.”

This has seen John put 35kg on his Deadlift total since the start of the year.

“Emmet made a few tweaks to my technique and changed the way I approached the lift. It has helped me to steadily improve over the last 9 months and I am very excited to see what we can achieve in
Europe.”

John has already had success this year winning Silver in the IDFPA Full Power event in July and getting Gold In the IDFPA Deadlift championships in Cork in August.

Emmet can’t wait to see what he can achieve in Amsterdam.

“We have been working around a few recurring injuries since January” said Emmet, “but we have improved John with every phase of the program and he is physically and mentally ready for Europe.

“We will be expecting another personal best out of John and hopefully a European medal to go along with his others from this year. ”
