Formers winners Dunfanaghy Golf Club who last won the competition in 2007 and Letterkenny Golf Club who won in 2014 will contest the 2016 Final over the weekend.

The 1st leg will be held in Dunfanaghy on Saturday 24th September Tee off 1.30 pm and the 2nd leg will tee off in Letterkenny at 1.40 pm on Sunday 25th September.

Both Clubs are worthy finalists:

In the quarter Final Dunfanaghy overcame Nairn and Portnoo G.C. with a clear victory however, in the semi-Final they came up against stiff opposition in Ballyliffin Golf Club. In the 1st leg Dunfanaghy held a slender lead 2-1 and so going to Ballyliffin it was all to play for. The Dunfanaghy boys produced another great result winning 2-1 to the delight of John Hanna (Team Manager).

Letterkenny have also had to play good teams; having to dispose of both last year’s finalists who were very strong opposition. In a close encounter they overcame Buncrana Golf Club by 3 ½ to 2 ½ .

Buncrana have been one of the stalwarts of this competition and their progression of players through this competition over the years has gave them a great run in the Fred Daly 2016 as Finalists under Francie Mc Groary. Letterkenny G.C. met Ballybofey and Stranorlar G.C. and the Barnhill boys put another great performance 2 – 1 and in the away the game was closer again as they drew however Letterkenny won by 3 ½ to 2 ½.

So Letterkenny will contest their 2nd final in 3 years and after their fine victories they are also looking forward to the Final.

Letterkenny under Tommy Doherty will select their team from Michael Shiel (Captain), Cian Harkin, Patrick Page, Tom Doherty, Lee Walsh, Ronan Daly and James Sweeney.

Dunfanaghy will select from Conor Hanna, Luke Kelly, James Sweeney, Tom Mc Clintock, Rory Kelly, Michael Dolan, Kyle Mc Garvey and Carlos Reilly.
