Gallagher goal crucial as Naomh Conaill defeat St Eunan’s

Naomh Conaill have knocked St Eunan’s out of the Donegal SFC following a great tussle this evening in Ballybofey.

The big, big score in this clash came when substitute Daragh Gallagher netted with just over ten minutes to go in the second-half.

It indicated the strength and depth that the Naomh Conaill squad have, when they could call on Gallagher and John O’Malley off the bench in the second-half.

Gallagher blasted to the net and that score put the Glenties men four ahead with time running out for David McGinley’s side.

Rory Kavanagh who was superb inside for St Eunan’s all afternoon, saw a late effort crash off the post.

That would’ve made it a one point game, but his brilliant effort crashed off the post, and Naomh Conaill counter-attacked with Aaron Thompson sealing the deal with another point.

It was an excellent match between two good sides, and there was noting to separate them at half-time.

Conor Morrison found the net for St Eunan’s in the opening period, while Naomh Conaill were economical in possession and with their shot selection.

The sides headed for dressing rooms all tied at St Eunan’s 1-04 Naomh Conaill 0-07.

In the second-half both sides exchanged scores and it was very much tit for tat, until substitute Gallagher found the net.

It was a huge turning point, and Naomh Conaill never looked like losing the game thereafter – although they got a fright with Kavanagh hitting the post late on.

Final score: Naomh Conaill 1-13 to 1-08
