Garda killer McDermott claims he has ‘done his time’

The Raphoe man who killed a Donegal Garda when his car smashed into the young officer has broken his silence on the horrific events.

Martin McDermott mowed down Garda Gary McLoughlin, 24, when his car went out of control at Burt in 2009.

McDermott, now 30, was jailed for the horrific killing after being found guilty of manslaughter in 2011 and was released.

However he is now on the run in Derry after a car crash outside Letterkenny for which Gardai want to interview him in connection with.

McDermott yesterday broke his silence and took to Facebook to rant about his situation.

He fumed “Here we go again, rats running to the papers selling stories about me – get a f***ing life. I had a car crash six f***ing years ago and you can’t let it go.

“I done the crime, I done the time,” he said.

And he added “Am I the first person to have a car crash where somebody dies? No. Did I set out to do what happened that night? No.

“But there are just jealous bastards out there who can’t let things go.”

Mc Dermott is still wanted by Gardai after fleeing Letterkenny University following a serious crash.

Although fitted with a back brace, McDermott signed him out of hospital before Gardai could get to him.

He is now living in Derry.
