Fianna Fail budget briefing a farce – Doherty

Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has described this morning’s budget briefing by Fianna Fáil as a farce.

The Donegal TD said Fianna Fáil should now drop the pretence that they are an opposition party given its support for the government’s budget and its failure to produce an alternative.

He said “Fianna Fáil has been too busy ghost-writing the Government’s Budget to produce a genuine alternative of its own.

“Make no mistake, they are co-authors of the document Michael Noonan and Paschal Donohue will present on Tuesday.

“Fianna Fáil’s media briefing today is just the latest gimmick in the worn-out pretence that they are in opposition to Fine Gael. It is a farce.

“They are part of this administration and their finger prints will be all over Budget 2017.

“Fianna Fáil should now drop the pretence that they are an opposition party. The mask has slipped and everybody can now see who is pulling the strings at the heart of this government.

“The real debate on Tuesday will be between the conservative policies of the government and the progressive alternative put forward by Sinn Féin.”
