A video of Donegal Marathon has been released by Rainey Day Productions, including both drone and ground footage of the marathon, including interviews with people such as Olympic rower Sinead Jennings.

The video shows the lead up to the marathon, and follows the runners until they cross the finish line, capturing the runner’s looks of radiance and determination as they push on for the last few meters.

Olympian Sinead Jennings says “it’s so nice to get out and run with everyone here, there’s always a great crowd in Letterkenny. It’s a great place to run, there are people supporting you along the whole route so you don’t feel the pain until the very end! If you get a chance to do it next year you should do it because it’s a great marathon.”

Speaking after the marathon, Danny McDaid, Olympian and member of the Donegal Marathon Committee said; “The standard today was as high as we expected with a local winner with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, 15 seconds.”

Chairperson of Donegal Marathon Dessie Larkin says; “We’re really looking forward to next year. We’ve always reached out to the diaspora, so people who are abroad, and people who are thinking of about coming home; make the occasion that you’re coming home to walk the half marathon or run the full marathon. We’d really love to see people coming back and making this the occasion that they meet up with family and friends”.

The marathon was won by Rosses Athletics Club runner Ciaran McGonagle.

The Jennings sisters really gave it socks! The first female to cross the finish line was Catriona Jennings, who traveled to London to represent Ireland in the 2012 Olympics!

Olympic athlete Sinead Jennings was barely off the plane from Rio before she competed in the half-marathon and won the ladies section!

Pauric Breslin won the half-marathon just ahead of Gavin Crawford and Michael Black. His time was 1 hour, 15 minutes and 23 seconds.
