Warning to motorists as temperatures to plunge to -3 degrees overnight

Motorists have been warned to drive with care tonight and tomorrow morning with temperatures set to plunge to -3 degrees.

Met Eireann are wanting there is a strong chance of sleet and snow throughout the night but this will be mostly in higher ground.

Donegal County Council has confirmed that its fleet of gritters will be out in force on the county’s roads as temperatures dip below freezing.

There is also expected to be a widespread frost setting in overnight.

As well as this evening, motorists have been warned to take care on the roads in the morning.

Gardai have warned motorists to ensure their vehicles are clear of ice on windscreens and wing mirrors before beginning their journeys.

They have also asked motorists to slow down and to allow more braking time in slippery conditions.
