RAPHOE BROTHERS Joshua and Sam Magee are in quarter-final action today at the FZ Forza Irish Open in Dublin.

The Magees will take on Russian pair Konstantin Abramov and Alexandr Zinchenko at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena.

The Raphoe duo have won their first two matches in the competition.

A 21-17, 21-17 win against Chinese Taipei’s Yu Jen Chi and Kuo Ching-Hung was followed by an impressive 21-14, 21-18 victory over Denmark’s Frederik Aalestrup and Mathias Moldt Baskjaer.

Later today, they aim for a place in the last four of the competition when they square off with the Russians.

Sam and Chloe Magee were seeed number one in the mixed doubles, but they narrowly lost out to Denmark’s Mikkel Mikkelsen and Mai Surrow. The Raphoe siblings just missed out with the Danes winning a closely-fought contest 21-19, 23-21.

That came after they had beaten Scotland’s Martin Campbell and Julie Macpherson 21-11, 21-18.

Also in the mixed doubles, Paul Reynolds and Rachael Darragh – the Magees’ niece – lost to Lasse Molhede and Anne Katrine Hansen of Denmark 21-13, 22-20.

In the men’s singles, Joshua Magee was beaten by Kim Bruun of Denmark while strong German Yvonne Li overcame young Darragh, who teamed up with Sara Boyle in the women’s doubles, but narrowly lost 21-18, 22-20.
