A man has been arrested in connection with a recent rape allegation in Letterkenny.
A young woman had complained that she had been attacked at her apartment block in the centre of the town on October 23rd.
The woman claimed she was asleep in her apartment when the man came into her home and attacked her.
Gardai trawled through hours of CCTV footage in and arund the scene and to roads leading to the apartment in a bid to identify the attacker.
Gardai have now confirmed that a man was arrested in connection with the incidnet.
Garda Inspector Goretti Sheridan of Letterkenny Garda station confirmed the arrest.
She said “Following an exhaustive investigation, Gardaí arrested a male in his 20’s on 13th December 2016.
“He was detained for approx 24 hours and has been released today pending a file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“Gardaí would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.”
