Pearse Doherty TD has expressed disappointment after the Tániaste admitted to him today that the Report on the Cost of Insurance will not be published this month as committed to by Minister Eoghan Murphy only last month to the Finance Committee.
Deputy Doherty said “I am deeply disappointed and frustrated that the Tánaiste admitted to me today the Government have missed its own deadline of December for this crucial report. At my request, the Finance Committee has already published a report in this issue making over 70 recommendations.
“Although last month saw promising signs of a slowdown in price hikes, there are still huge issues to be faced in motor insurance matters. For example, yesterday, I revealed that at least one company charged a customer €154.75 for a simple change of address within the same county.
“The longer customers have to wait for government action, the longer this type of rip-off practice will continue. The Tánaiste’s ambiguous new deadline of ‘early next year’ is too loose to provide any comfort for drivers. I will continue to push for action on this issue and will not accept any prolonged delay.”
