Peamount United have paid a glowing tribute to Roma McLaughlin, who has signed with Shelbourne for the 2017 season.

Shelbourne, the Women’s National League champions, snapped up midfielder McLaughlin, who hails from Greencastle. The midfielder is now set to play in the WNL and the Champions League with Shels.

McLaughlin was the WNL Young Player of the Year in 2015 and has been nominated for that award again for the 2016 campaign. For the last two seasons, she has been on the Team of the Year, while she made her Republic of Ireland senior debut in 2016.

In a statement, Peamount said: “Everyone at Peamount would like to wish Roma McLaughlin the very best with her move to Shelbourne WNL for the forthcoming Continental WNL 2017 season.

“In her first season 2015/2016 Roma picked up the Continental young player of the year award along with getting selected for the team of the year, she also picked up the Club player of the year.

“During the short 2016 season Roma’s standards never dropped as once again she has made the short list for the Continental young player of the year and she has also made the team of the year again. To top off a fantastic season Roma made two appearances for the Ireland Senior ladies team.

“Roma is one of the most genuine girls you will ever come across and apart from what she does on the pitch it’s off it that you see the real Roma and that’s the part that we will miss the most but she will ALWAYS be a pea and we will always love her to bits.

“So from Vinnie , Pat , James and the the rest of your sisters keep doing your thing Girl.”
