Letterkenny woman Nikki Bradley has become the first woman to complete the original ‘Fan Dance’ race series on crutches.

On  Saturday January 14th 2017, Nikki Bradley successfully completed the gruelling 24km march in Wales. The Fan Dance is a challenge usually reserved for the British SAS and takes place in the Brecon Beacons.

As the founder of an awareness campaign ‘Fighting Fit For Ewing’s, Nikki regularly participates in physical challenges to highlight the importance of exercise for rehabilitation.

When remarking on the event Nikki proclaimed; ‘This was most definitely the toughest challenge I have ever undertaken. Heavy snowfall the night before made for a slippery day out but it was worth it. I will never forget this experience and the amazing people I met along the way.

“I surprised myself with this challenge. There were times I genuinely didn’t know if I could continue. However, the stream of well wishers that passed me helped keep my motivation levels up and the support from my boyfriend Ian who stayed by my side the entire way got me through.’

Nikki completed the trek in 7hrs 55minutes and is one of only two people to complete the original Fan Dance race series on crutches. Race organiser and former Special Forces soldier, Ken Jones, was the first.
