‘An Evening With Roy Keane’ fundraiser confirmed for Letterkenny

Controversial former Republic of Ireland midfielder and current Irish assistant manager Roy Keane is coming to Letterkenny for fundraiser later this month.

Keane will take part in ‘An Evening With Roy Keane’ in aid of the Friends of Ronan Sweeney Rehabilitation Fund in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Friday, February 24th.

Tickets, costing €20, go on sale from tomorrow morning and will be available at the Mount Errigal Hotel, Brian McCormick’s Sports and Clarke’s Newsagents.

Broadcaster Claire McCollum will host the event.

Former Manchester United midfielder is perhaps most infamously remembered for his part in an incident at the World Cup in 2002 when a fall-out led to the Corkman leaving the Irish base at Saipan.

Keane, though, is regarded as one of the top Irish players of all-time and, after being capped 67 times, is now Martin O’Neill’s assistant manager.

The function is in aid of the Friends of Ronan Sweeney Rehabilitation Fund.

Woodlands native Ronan Sweney sustained significant spinal injuries in May 2016, in an accidental fall from his bedroom window in Sligo, where he was a student at Sligo IT.

The fall has resulted in limited movement in Ronan’s lower limbs.

Ronan is continuing his rehabilitation programme at home, which is incurring substantial costs in terms of physiotherapy and acquiring specialist equipment.
