Two people have been arrested in connection with an attack in Ballyshannon earlier today in which a young woman was knocked unconscious.

The 25 year old victim received a head injury after she was set upon on Market Street at around 2.30am.

Gardai have now confirmed they have arrested two people who are helping them with their investigation.

The two individuals arrested are a man in his 50s and a woman in her late 20s.

They are being detained at Ballyshannon Garda station.

The 25-year-old’s injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.

Scenes of Crime Officers carried out a full forensic examination of the scene earlier today.

Tir Chonaill Street and Market Street had been closed off to traffic to allow Gardaí to conduct their investigation.

These streets have since been re-opened.
