Shane Blaney is set to captain the Republic of Ireland Schools team this afternoon in the Centenary Shield opener against Wales.

The St Eunan’s College student is one of three Donegal players on the Irish squad that takes on Wales at Belgrove today at 2.30pm.

The highly-regarded Blaney is emerging through the ranks at Finn Harps and has been steadily catching the eye with his displays at underage level.

Blaney is already being touted as one to watch for Harps fans in the future and today he captains his country as he becomes the latest Harps player to wear the green.

Of late, wing-back Ethan Boyle and goalkeepers Harry Doherty and Lee McCarron have featured in Irish squads and another netminder, Jamie Bell, is in the Centenary Shield Squad.

Bell is a student at St Columba’s College in Stranorlar.

Bell and Blaney are joined by Loreto, Milford’s Connor Gormley. Midfielder Gormley plays for Derry City.

The Irish management team is led by Paddy O’Reilly and also includes Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan and Harps coach William O’Connor.
