The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association continued their Snooker in Schools project last Thursday in Letterkenny.

This grass roots RIBSA development programs main objective is to help develop the interest of our sport within schools and to grow the game.

Colaiste Ailigh – Leitir Ceanainn Secondary School in Letterkenny were invited to the Northwest Snooker Club to learn the basics of the game from the RIBSA National Snooker Coach PJ Nolan and RIBSA Coach John Doherty.

One of the Colaiste Ailigh star students is young Sean Devenney who played in the 2016 Home Internationals and 2016 World U-18 Championships, Sean was also part of the winning Celtic Challenge junior team and he was voted cue sports star of the year at the recent Donegal Sports Awards.

The boys and girls learned how to develop good fundamentals in their techniques through demonstrations by International local players Sean Devenney, Anthony Bonnar, Aidan Devenney and PJ who is one of the world’s leading snooker World Snooker coaches.

RIBSA are the governing body of Billiards and Snooker in the Republic of Ireland and they were delighted with the Schools day and the boys and girls said they really enjoyed the session and they thanked the RIBSA team and the Northwest Snooker Club for hosting the day.

All the students received a certificate for attending and John Doherty who organised the session hopes to invite other schools around Letterkenny to future Snooker in Schools days in the club and if any school wishes to take part in one of these days they can contact the club on 074-9121384 or 087-2223164
