Shane Duffy will undergo an operation tomorrow morning and will miss the Republic of Ireland’s crunch World Cup qualifier against Wales later this month.
Duffy broke a metatarsal in Brighton’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Duffy managed to play the full 90 minutes of the game, but Chris Hughton, the Brighton manager has revealed that the Derry native is facing a spell out.
Hughton said: “He’s fractured his fifth metatarsal and will have an operation probably tomorrow.
“We’re probably looking at a minimum of six weeks. He’s a big loss.”
Duffy, 25, started for Ireland in their 1-0 win over Austria in November and was expected to be named in the side to play Wales on March 24 in Dublin.
However, Duffy – whose father Brian is from Letterkenny and whose mother Siobhan hails from Raphoe – now has to endure the recovery road.
