The family of the Buncrana woman, Danielle McLaughlin, who was murdered, in India, have conveyed their thanks for the outpouring of kindness they have received.

28-year-old Danielle was found dead yesterday at Palolem Beach in Canacona near Goa with injuries to her head and face.

Police in India say that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman described by friends as ‘a beautiful and kind hearted, funny young lady who loved life’.

A fund to assist in the repatriation and funeral expenses for Danielle was set up and in just two hours this afternoon reached it’s target of €10,000. Currently, at just before 6 o’clock, the figure raised stands at €14,094.

In a brief statement released this evening, the McLaughlin family said: “The family would like to express our thanks to all who have got in touch since receiving this awful news, as you can expect we are finding it very difficult at this trying time, also thanks to the Irish and British consulate who along with Colin from the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and many friends who have assisted at this time.

“Danielle will be sadly missed by all in our household.”
