Traffic chaos and road closures caused by icy conditions across Donegal

There are reports of accidents, tailbacks and treacherous conditions on roads across the county this morning after an overnight spell of snow and freezing conditions.

The Ramelton Road outside Letterkenny is reportedly closed following a collision. The road at Woodlands National School will remain closed for up to one hour after a vehicle struck a pole and authorities are working to remove fallen electrical wires at the scene.

Traffic is said to be at a standstill on the Kilmacrennan road to Illistrin NS. A lorry breakdown has been reported as the cause for the delays here.

Icy conditions are reported on the road from the Silver Tassie Hotel to Letterkenny. Cars have been sliding on roundabouts around the Letterkenny area, including the Dry Arch, Manor and Mountain Top.

Traffic is backed up from Magherabeg National School to the Manorcunningham Roundabout outside Letterkenny.

The AA roadwatch is warning motorists to drive carefully and remember stopping distances are 10 x longer in ice and snow.
