Top TV chefs will be battling it out in a celebrity cook-off at the Redcastle Hotel in Inishowen later this month in aid of local charity The Victoria Thompson Scholarship.
Tony Singh, from BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, will be joining forces with Donegal’s own celebrity chef Brian McDermott and the Redcastle Hotel’s Gordon Smyth for what promises to be a night of sizzling cooking and craic.
Baby Victoria, from Moville, died in 2012 aged just nine months after she was diagnosed with the rare, life-limiting condition leukodystropky.
Her parents, Brian and Sharon, and the local community have so far raised more than €200,000 in her memory for Ireland’s children’s hospice, LauraLynn, and to help train nurses in palliative children’s care.
“There are an estimated 4,000 life-limited children in Ireland,” explained Victoria’s mother Sharon.
“They have complex medical needs, but sadly there are very few services available to them.
“The Redcastle Hotel and its staff have always been very generous in helping us remember our Victoria, and other children like her, and they’ve already pledged a substantial amount this year to our annual signage rental auction.
“We’re delighted that Tony Singh is making his first visit to Inishowen to support us, and we’re always grateful for the wonderful support of local chefs Brian McDermott and Gordon Smyth.
“Ever since we started fundraising in Victoria’s memory we’ve been overwhelmed by the support and generosity we’ve received from people locally, and we can’t thank you enough for coming out and supporting us at the cook-off.”
Tony Singh is well known to viewers of BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen, and has promised to add a Donegal twist to his trademark Scottish-Asian food.
Famous for his quick-fire wit and cheeky personality, fans of Tony’s many television shows know they’re in for a treat.
As well as presenting BBC2’s A Cook Abroad: Tony Singh’s India and The Incredible Spice Men, Tony is also a regular on shows like The Great British Menu, Saturday Kitchen and Ready, Steady, Cook.
“I’m delighted to have finally persuaded Tony to come over and try some Donegal cooking,” says Brian.
“He loves to use good quality, Scottish produce, so I’m looking forward to showing him the wonderful food we have right on our doorstep here in Inishowen.
“And of course I’m delighted to be able to support The Victoria Thompson Scholarship.
“It’s a fantastic charity in memory of a very special little girl.”
The Thursday Night Live Cook-Off in aid of The Victoria Thompson Scholarship takes place in the Redcastle Oceanfront, Golf and Spa Hotel on 27th April at 8pm.
There will be an opportunity to meet and take photos with the chefs, as well as raffle and auction on the night with a donation going to the Victoria Thompson Scholarship.
