Councillor’s anger after trip through ‘muck and bog’ up Errigal

The Mayor of Letterkenny and County Councillor James Pat McDaid has promised to tackle the conditions at one of Donegal’s most popular natural tourist attractions.

The Glenswilly politician recently enjoyed a trek up Mount Errigal to take part in an Autism Awareness event.

But Cllr McDaid said the day was marred by the condition of the trail to the mountain.

He said “Had a lovely trek up Mount Errigal today in such nice weather and for a great cause – Autism Awareness. Well done to all the organisers for what was a great day out.

“I must say after seeing first hand the state of the bottom of Errigal and all the muck and bog I think it’s time it was addressed so one of our main tourist attractions in Donegal can be more tourist and trekking friendly, very difficult at the bottom it’s so wet.”

And he vowed “I will be making representations to all relevant bodies to get this addressed as the views from the top of it is really something else.

“Errigal has such potential for even more visitors if the pathway at the bottom can be addressed along with better toilet and extra car parking facilities be put in place.”
