Man facing cannabis charge had five heart attacks after cocaine overdose

April 26, 2017

A court was told that a man accused of having cannabis for sale or supply had suffered five heart attacks after taking a cocaine overdose.

Gerard O’Brien spent a number of weeks recovering at Letterkenny General Hospital, Galway University Hospital and the National Rehabilitation Clinic after the overdose in October, 2015.

O’Brien appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug.

The court heard that O’Brien was caught with the drugs on November 11th, 2013 at Cross, Killygordon.

Barrister Ms Fiona Crawford applied for a Probation and Welfare Report saying Mr O’Brien was still dealing with his addictions and that matters are still ongoing.

The case was adjourned until the next sitting of the circuit court.
