Illies Golden Gloves light-flyweight John Moran has moved a step closer to selection for the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games.

At the weekend, the Illies man (pictured above right) recorded wins over Liam Glennon and Diarmuid Toland at the National Stadium in the Commonwealth Youth Games Box-Offs.

Moran defeated Glennon 5-0 on Saturday in an eye-catching display by the Illies man.

On Sunday, Moran had the edge on Toland, from the Phoenix club and is now poisued to be selected on the Northern Ireland team that will go to the Carribean.

The Commonwealth Youth Games are held from July 18-23.

Earlier this year, Toland had defeated Moran in a Commonwealth Youth Games competition at the Dockers Club in Belfast, but the weekend’s wins mean Moran is now the man in the driving seat to be selected by the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Council.
