Cloughaneely captain Kevin Mulhern hopes yesterday’s Donegal Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta final win over Glenfin can be a spur for 2017.

On home soil at Pairc Naomh Fionnan, Cloughaneely – led by the timeless Denis Boyle – defeated Glenfin by five points in the final to capture their first Donegal senior Gaeltacht title since 1998.

“We’re working really hard and we’re putting in a big shift,” Mulhern said.

“Hopefully this is the start of good things for us now. It’s massive, this. We’ve been ping-ponging up and down but hopefully this will kick-start us again.

“We knew Glenfin would give us a tough day and it was a slog, a tough battle.”

On veteran Boyle, Mulhern added: “When we needed the cool head he was our go-to man.”
