Seamus Paddymor Doherty’s 69th minute winner gave Glengad United the win they needed to clinch their third Inishowen Premier League title in a row at Aileach FC this evening.

Aileach FC 0 Glengad United 1

In a keenly contested clash there was little to choose between the teams but Glengad did improve in the second-half after a lack-lustre opening period and just about deserved this narrow but vital victory.

he first half produced plenty in terms of effort by both teams but little in terms of goalmouth action.

The best chance fell to the home side in the 25th minute when Glengad defender John G McLaughlin lost possession twice in quick succession just inside his own half, Caoimhin McFeeley broke into box and his angled shot was goal-bound but brilliantly cleared off the line by Stephen McLaughlin.

Glengad”s only worthwhile effort came in the 38th minute when Jason Doherty’s cross was flicked goalwards by Terence Doherty but easily held by keeper Mc Geady.

Six minutes into the second half Glengad should have went in front when Terence Doherty made a brilliant run down the left and pulled the ball back for Seamus Doherty but his shot for goal was brilliantly blocked by Darren McMonagle.

The vital breakthrough arrived in the 69th minute, Adam Bryne did well on the right-hand side and found Seamus Doherty inside the box, this time the midfielder made no mistake as he drilled the ball past David McGeady for a Chamionship winning goal.

Both teams maintained the effort right to the end, McGeady denied Nigel McMonagle’s effort in the 85th minute but Doherty’s goal proved enough for Shane Bryne’s men to make it a three-in-a-row titles.
