Glenswilly GAA senior manager Aidy Glackin has been selected as Sinn Fein’s new county councillor.

Glackin succeeds highly-respected local political veteran Mick Quinn who has stood down from the council on health grounds.

Tributes were paid from all parties to Mr Quinn who was a hugely respected and well-liked councillor.

Former Tesco worker Glackin, who has now returned to third level education, battled it out with former councillor Sean O’Donnell to claim the vacant seat left by Mr Quinn’s retirement.

Sinn Fein party stalwarts including outgoing MLA Pat Doherty, County Councillors Jack Murray and Gerry McMonagle, Deputy Pearse Doherty and Senator Padraig Mac Lochlainn were among the many who welcomed Mr Glackin onto the council this evening.
