Listen: Shane Byrne reflects on Glengad’s three-in-a-row – and talks USL possibility

With a third successive Jackie Crossan Premier Division title secured, following last night’s one-nil win over Aileach FC, the question for Glengad United is: What now?

By Charlie Collins at The Lakeside

Glengad have been dominant in the Inishowen League in recent times. Seamus Doherty’s second half goal last night sealed a 1-0 Championship-clinching win over Aileach at The Lakeside.

Some observers have floated the idea of The Crua men making the leap into the ranks of the Ulster Senior League.

“If the  club and the committee came to me and said they wanted to push into the Ulster Senior League, I’d be delighted to take them up,” Byrne said.

“We’d be there or thereabouts. We have put in good performances. It would enhance the League and we’d have a couple of nice local derbies.”

Glengad are back in the Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup final this season, having beaten Cockhill in the semi-final and Byrne says the USL would hold no fears for the black and amber.

He said: “If the committee decided that they wanted to do it, I’d be willing to manage them in the Ulster Senior League. The boys would compete in the Ulster Senior League no problem.”
