The side from Dunfanaghy failed to get out of the group last year as they finished behind both Kilcar and St Eunan’s but are hotly-tipped this term to make at least the last eight from Group B, which also includes Bundoran and Killybegs.
This afternoon in sweltering heat at county headquarters, McFadden’s goal inside of five minutes set the visitors on their way. However, they were made sweat in the heat as the team from the Twin Towns came back two just two behind, having been eight in arrears at the interval.
Then, just 10 minutes after McFadden’s goal, McElhinney added a second goal with a typically explosive run with St Michael’s in complete control.
MacCumhaill’s, over the hour, were best served in the scoring stakes by Stephen Mulligan, who landed 10 points in all – six of which came from frees.
At the break, St Michael’s were 2-6 to 0-4 in front.
With 10 minutes to go, MacCumhaill’s began to eke themselves back into the contest. Mulligan and Steven O’Reilly scores made the score 2-9 to 0-13 for St Michael’s. However, St Michael’s made sure of the points late on when Kelly added a third goal.
