Lecky leaps to new heights with Irish Junior record and Commonwealth standard

Finn Valley AC’s Sommer Lecky continues to raise the high jump bar with a new Irish Junior record in Belfast yesterday.

The Castlederg woman jumped 1.82 metres in Belfast.

Lecky’s leap is a new Irish Junior, Ulster and Donegal record for the event while it is also, crucially, a Commonwealth Standard, meaning she could be set for the Commonwealth Youth Games in the summer.

In February, Lecky – who is coached by Niall Wilkinson – had equalled the then Irish Junior record of 1.81m in winning gold in the women’s high jump at the Irish Indoor Championships.
