Picture Special: Darkness into Light walk Arranmore raises €4,100 for Pieta House

The Darkness into Light walk in Arranmore Island raised a staggering €4,100 for Pieta House.

140 people took part in the walk to the lighthouse as the sun rose at 4am yesterday morning, with a late ferry coming in from the mainland for the walk.

Denis O’Donnell says “We had great weather, there was a beautiful sunrise and sky.”

Last year 130,000 people shared the light at venues in Ireland and worldwide.

It is this charity’s flagship annual fundraising and awareness event. It started with approximately 400 people in the now iconic yellow Darkness into Light t-shirts walking the 5km course in Dublin’s Phoenix Park in 2009.

These events help to promote suicide prevention and to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health, spreading the message that it’s okay not to be okay.

The Northwest Pieta House will officially open in Letterkenny on May 15th due to the generosity and fundraising efforts of our community.

Their largest fundraising event, the charity receives 14% of its funds from the government and must source the rest from donations.
