‘Beyond a joke’ – Mayor’s frustration as Letterkenny traffic chaos continues

The Mayor of the Letterkenny Municipal District, Councillor James Pat McDaid says that Letterkenny’s traffic chaos is now ‘beyond a joke’.

Commuters have long been expressing frustration at the lengthy delays on the roads into and out of Letterkenny.

Councillor McDaid called on the Municipal District to seek high level talks in a bid to begin the process of easing the congestion.

“We need to highlight this issue,” Councillor McDaid said.

“It is beyond a joke at this stage, the pressure that Letterkenny town is under. We are coming into a very busy period, rally season and we have to get the ball rolling.

“There is very little response from the Government here and it is disappointing.

“The members of this Municipal District should seek a meeting with Oireachtas members in Donegal, the senior roads engineer and the local roads engineer and, if needs be, the finance director.

“Letterkenny is crying out for funding. We are being drop fed here.

“Letterkenny is choc-a-block and it won’t get any better. We need to make sure that traffic is free-flowing in Letterkenny.”

Councillor McDaid’s comments were supported by Councillors Liam Blaney and Gerry McMonagle.
