The Good Morning Support Service Donegal is asking for the public and local businesses to get behind their upcoming fundraising events and to consider their organisation when planning charity events.

The service provides support for older people in Donegal through a telephone support service as well as a ‘befriending service’ which provides one to one visits from volunteers in three areas of the county. Currently the befriending service supports over 60 older people with almost as many on a waiting list.

The telephone support service currently calls over 290 older people in the county, with 90 volunteers making more than 1,000 calls per week.

While the telephone support service and the Inishowen befriending service is funded by the HSE  Older People Service in the other two areas: Milford, Rosguill & Fanad and Lifford & Castlefinn) receive no funding.

“In order for us to continue these vital and highly effective services to older people who are in need of our support, to help and assist them in retaining their independence, and also contributing to their health and well-being, we have no option but to raise the necessary funds through this fundraising campaign.”

“We are hoping that the Public will aid us further in supporting our fundraising efforts, or if they are organising an event that they would consider adding the Good Morning Service to their list of possible charities to support,” said Frances Browne of the Good Morning Service.
