Shaun McGowan hopes that this season’s League and Cup double can help shoot Ballybofey United back to the upper echelons of the Donegal Junior League.

Runaway winners of Division Two this season, Ballybofey today added the Brian McCormick Cup to the collection as Niall McCloskey’s 86th minute strike got them a 1-0 final win over Rathmullan Celtic at Dry Arch Park.

“We have had a hell of a lot of good players and teams in the club, but this has been a brilliant season for Ballybofey,” McGowan beamed as Ballybofey completed the Donegal League term with an unblemished record.

“It took this wee team to win a double and you can tell by the delight what it means. It’s unbelievable to finish out the season unbeaten. We wanted to make the wee bit of history for the club and we’ve done it.”
