Listen: Eamon McConigely says Letterkenny Rovers ‘proved they’re winners’ in Knockalla final

Letterkenny Rovers manager Eamon McConigley challenged his team to become winners – and they met his demand last night by capturing the Knockalla Caravans Senior Cup.

Brian McVeigh, Paul McVeigh and Steve Okakpo-Emeka netted the goals in the second half as Rovers defeated Glengad United 3-0 at Maginn Park in the final.

It had been a frustrating campaign for Rovers at times and they narrowly missed out on League glory to Cockhill Celtic, but it was Rovers’ night as they took hold of some silverware at Glengad’s expense.

“We worked hard all season,” McConigley said.

“We deserved to be here, but we had to come and prove that we were winners. We won it comfortably in the end. They didn’t trouble us for long periods. When the first goal came, we were in pole position.”
