Lettermacaward’s Carl McHugh scored last night as Motherwell defeated Kilmarnock 3-1 at Fir Park to preserve their Scottish Premier League status.

McHugh opened the scoring with a brilliant strike to put ‘Well on their way.

McHugh had missed the first half of the season after a horrific head injury, sustained in a game against Kilmarnock as he made his Scottish League debut in August.

Former Reading and Bradford City man scored his first Motherwell goal in March against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park and last night he was back on the scoresheet in a vital win that secured his side’s safety.

McHugh, with just 41 seconds on the clock, sweat home in style from an Elliott Frear corner.

Although Adam Frizzell levelled for Kilmarnock, Motherwell took the win with Lionel Ainsworth scoring a belting free kick and Frear completed the scoring.
