Up to €20,000 donated to local charities from Northwest 10K fundraiser

The Northwest 10K Committee have presented two local charities with cheques sharing the proceeds of this years’ event.

The two benefiting charities this year are the Donegal Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre along with the Friends and Family of Abbey Village, Kilmacrennan.

Each charity received a €9,642 donation from funds raised at the North West Charity 10k Road Race and Walk which took place on Sunday 30th April 2017.

The Donegal Sexual Abuse & Rape Crisis Centre was established in 1997 and are celebrating 20 years of supporting survivors in Donegal this year. The service provides a free support and counselling service to both female and male survivors of rape and sexual violence in Donegal aged 14 and over.

Abbey Village is situated in Kilmacrennan and is home to 32 residents with intellectual disabilities. It consists of group homes which have 5 residents in each house and 17 with in semi independent living. The residents have varied degrees of ability and range in age from 26 to 85. Abbey Village runs at full capacity at all times.
