Second half goals help Glenswilly to victory at Four Masters

SECOND HALF GOALS at Four Masters from Leon Kelly and Kealan McFadden meant Glenswilly moved away from the foot of the All-County Football League Division 1.

Four Masters 0-8 Glenswilly 2-9

The side managed by Adrian Glackin went in level at 0-5 to 0-5 following a scrappy first half but improved thereafter to give themselves a cushion of four points from the relegation zone as they look at the table this evening.

Kelly, who bagged 1-2 in the second half, and Oisin Crawford were the driving force for the team from Pairc Naomh Columba against the Donegal town outfit, who now look in serious trouble without a win in nine – since their surprise victory over St Michael’s on the first weekend of the season.

The hosts were 0-5 to 0-3 in front at one stage in the first half following Daire Quinn and Shaun Meehan scores but Gary McFadden and Ciaran Bonner levelled it up at the break.

Glenswilly had a great goal chance in first half injury time when Cathal Gallagher slapped onto the crossbar after a centre from Kealan McFadden.

In the second half, there was a bit more zip about the visitors and after Joe Gibbons pointed, the opening goal of the afternoon arrived on 36 minutes. Leon Kelly’s finish wasn’t the tidiest but it was enough to beat Ryan Haughey following a decent run from Crawford.

Then, nine minutes later, an excellent ball into the full-forward line was gathered by McFadden, who gave the approach play the finish it deserved with a net finish to put Glenswilly 2-8 to 0-6 in front.

Thomas McGowan came off the bench for Masters to score two long range frees and although Darren Doherty popped over three points in all, the home team couldn’t keep up with Glenswilly once they put their foot on the accelerator.

Four Masters: Ryan Haughey; Ryan O’Donnell, Dylan Kennedy, Josh Lacey; Caolan Loughney, Daire Quinn (0-1), Barry Dunnion; Leo McHugh, Kevin McBrearty (0-1); Sean O’Kennedy, Emmett Doogan, Shaun Meehan (0-1); Darren Doherty (0-3), Dillon Muldoon, Patrick Reid. Sub: Thomas McGowan (0-2, 2f) for O’Kennedy (38).

Glenswilly: Philip O’Donnell; Ruairi Crawford, Eamon Ward, Ryan Diver; Cormac Callaghan Joe Gibbons (0-1), Ryan Hunter; Leon Kelly (1-2), Coalan Kelly; Ciaran Gibbons, Oisin Crawford (0-1); Gary McFadden (0-3, 1f), Kealan McFadden (1-0), Ciaran Bonner (0-1).
