A Longford player literally took the shirt off a supporter’s back yesterday evening in Ballybofey during their clash with Donegal.

During the first half of the game, which Donegal won 0-12 to 0-7, Robbie Smyth had to be briefly replaced by Larry Moran following a clash.

Smyth’s number 13 jersey was badly blood-stained as he received medical attention on the sideline.

Longford had no replacement jersey on the line, but a supporter in the stand happened to be wearing a number 13 shirt and passed it down.

Eugene Quaine told balls.ie: “I took it off and one my friends threw it to that maor foinse -Trevor Smullen, he runs to Robbie and Robbie wears it back on the field!”
