Ardal McDermott steps down as Donegal hurling boss

Donegal are on the hunt for a new senior hurling manager following the departure of Ardal McDermott.

At Monday’s monthly meeting of the Donegal County Committee, McDermott confirmed to delegates that he was stepping down.

The Burt clubman and former Donegal player, who retired in 2012, took over from Ray Durack in late 2015.

McDermott had been a part of Durack’s backroom team, but stepped away to succeed Ronan McLaughlin as the Burt boss.

McDermott had a two-year term with the option of a third year, but he had opted not to seek the additional year.

In 2016, Donegal were relegated from Division 2B, but reached a Nicky Rackard Cup semi-final where they were beaten by Mayo.

This year, Donegal were crowned Division 3A winners and return to Division 2B for 2018. After losses to Tyrone and Monaghan, they made their exit from the Nicky Rackard Cup.
