The next chapter in Jim McGuinness’s career began this afternoon with Chinese Super League club Beijing Sinobo Guoan.

The Glenties native, who guided Donegal to the 2012 All-Ireland title as well as three Ulster SFC successes in a four-year term between 2011 and 2014 saw his new employers in action for the first time against current league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao.

A 2-0 win marked an excellent start. Soriano scored twice – the first on 52 seconds beforehand another six minutes into the second half.

McGuinness works as assistant coach under ex-Bayer Leverkusen and Red Bull Salzburg coach Roger Schmidt at Beijing Sinobo Guoan, who began today in seventh place in the league, 15 fixtures in.

Today’s opponents feature the likes of Chinese captain Zheng Zhi, Colombia’s Jackson Martinez and Brazilians Paulinho, Alan Carvalho and Ricardo Goulart.
