Grown men ‘looking for trouble’ kicking footballs into kids’ play area – claim

It has been claimed that ‘grown men’ are purposely kicking footballs from the astroturf pitch at the Ballymacool Town Park in Letterkenny into the children’s play area ‘to get a reaction’.

Councillor Dessie Shields called on the Letterkenny Municipal District to erect a ball catch or netting system to put an end to what he called ‘a dangerous situation’.

Councillor Shields said that heavy footballs were being kicked into the children’s play area.

“Grown men are trying to get a reaction from people in the children’s play area,” he said.

“I bring this motion with a degree of reluctance because it is trying to stop something that shouldn’t be happening. They are doing it when small toddlers are there and it is hard to believe.

“Young children are getting hit. People who were at this were grown, adult men and they seem to be looking for trouble.”
