Letterkenny AC: A ‘superlative’ run by Danny Mooney at the Morton Mile

written by Chris McNulty July 17, 2017
FacebookTweetLinkedInPrint
Danny Mooney had a superlative run in the Morton Mile at Santry Stadium, Dublin, on Wednesday evening.

In-form Danny improved on his excellent time of 5 days’ earlier in Letterkenny. He clocked a superb time of 4.00.12, meaning he was tantalisingly close to a sub 4 minute mile.
American Dominic Robert, winner of the Letterkenny mile, was the Santry winner. Like Danny, he took 4 seconds off Friday’s  time and clocked 3.55.71 for the mile.
11 other runners finished in sub 4 minutes. Danny carried his good form into the 1500m race in the Le Cheile/Miler’s Club event just 3 days later.
Danny’s time on the very windy track in  Leixlip, Co Kildare was 3.48.22, which gave him 6th place. He was also the first Irish finisher.
The winner, yet again, was  Dominic Robert.  The impact of the wind can be guaged from the fact that his  1500m time, if extrapolated, would not have got the American a sub 4 minute mile.
Darren McBrearty, running in the same meeting, had an excellent time of 1.51.46 in the 800m, which gave him 4th place. British runner, Jack Hallas, won the 800m in 1.50.29.
Martin Gormley had a top 10 placing and was the first M50 in Tuesday evening’s Finn Harps 5K. Martin’s time was 19.03. Finn Valley’s Conor Gallagher was the race winner in 18.11.
Aoife Nash ran well and came home in 22.16. Cliodhna Dunne also had a good run and finished in 23.26.
Noeleen Scanlan’s time of 18.38 meant she was the first woman in Wednesday evening’s Lifford 5K.
Noeleen has been in tremendous form over the past 12 months and she has enjoyed a plethora of PBs and podium finishes. City of Derry’s John Paul Williamson won the race in 15.23.
A large number of LAC runners participated in Friday evening’s Rathmullen 5K. The first club runners across the finishing line were 2 women who have shown tremendous recent form.
Shauna McGeehan was second in the  Female Open category in a PB time of 18.08. She  was closely followed by Fionnuala Diver, who was just 4 seconds behind her club mate. The  F35 winner was City of Derry Track Club’s Martina Murphy whose time was 18.04.  First in the Female Open category was Finn Valley’s Teresa Doherty, who had an excellent time of 16.36.
Niall Barry’s good form continued and he finished in 18.23. Brian Ferry’s time was 18.40. Barry Mackey had another fine run, recording a time of 19.00, his third best ever 5K time.
He was 3rd in a very competitive M50 category. Richard Raymond continued his recent domination of the M60 category and his time of 22.14 gave him another M60 first place. Irene McFadden guided John Doherty to an excellent time of 22.34. Marian Kerr’s time was 22.36.
180 runners completed this  5K and City of Derry’s John Paul Willamson was, once again, the winner, this time  in 15.36.
Philip Connolly ran 25.26 in the St Joseph’s 5K in Stranorlar on Friday evening.
On Saturday morning, Martin Gormley achieved his fastest time for the 8 Letterkenny parkruns he has taken part in. He ran a time of 19.29 to take 2nd place overall and 1st place in the M50-54 category.
James McBride was 1st in the M65-69 age group in 23.58. Mary Sweeney ran 24.54 and was the second woman. Letterkenny parkrun enthusiast, Peter McLean, clocked 27.46 and was 2nd in the M55-59 category.
Teresa McDaid travelled to Bydgoszcz, Poland during the week as manager of a very strong Irish team in the European Athletics Under 23 Championship.
Club Chairman, Aidan McKenna, would like to offer sincere thanks to all those who gave freely of their time to help make last week’s  International Track and Field meeting so successful.
The winning Lotto numbers this week were: 5, 11, 19, 20.
There were no Match 4 winners. Paul Toner won €80 for matching 3 numbers. The jackpot next week will be €2,000.
