Listen: Jamie McKinney on how Kildrum’s famous Foyle Cup win means ‘the world’

Kildrum Tigers captain Jamie McKinney says Friday night’s Foyle Cup final win over Norwich meant ‘the world’.

Kildrum took a famous win over the Canaries in the Under-19 final at Ardmore, as Shane Brennan’s 11th minute free-kick gave Jonny McGinty’s side a 1-0 win.

“It means the world to me,” said teak tough skipper McKinney.

“We wanted it more than them and you could see that out there, the way every man was going.

“We defended like our lives depended on it. Every man was just flying into tackles and nothing got near the net after from that time they hit the crossbar. “The legs were gone but we all put everything into it.

“They couldn’t get at us. We were too compact and they couldn’t get near us.”

Norwich struck the crossbar twice, but battling Kildrum clung on for dear life after Brennan’s golden strike.

McKinney said: “The goal gave us something to hold onto and we fought the rest of the match. Every man put the body on the line.”
