Cloughaneely gave their promotion hopes a huge shot in the arm with a comprehensive win over Glenfin in Division 2 last night.

Cloughaneely 1-9 Glenfin 0-4

It was a neck and neck low scoring first half in Páirc Naomh Fhionáin on, with the half finishing  a hard earned three points apiece.

John Fitzgerald (0-2) and Denis Boyle secured points for the home side with Jason Morrow, Glenfin’s only scorer on the day, hitting points for the visitors.

With all to play for in the second half Glenfin got off to a flying start with Kevin McGlynn in on goal within minutes, only to be denied by keeper Shaun McClafferty.

Shortly after another McGlynn shot fell dangerously close to goal but was safely cleared by McClafferty again.

Cloughaneely eventually managed to pull away with points from Fitzgerald and Martin McGuire within quick succession; while Declan McGarvey got his name on the score sheet in the 50th minute.

With eight mins remaining Cloughaneely were awarded a penalty, which Boyle neatly tucked away, after Jason Morrow was reprimanded with a yellow card for a foul on Fitzgerald in the square.

Glenfin remained scoreless for much of the second half with Morrow adding their only second half point in the 56th minute from a free.

Two further points from Fitzgerald and Boyle finished the game off in favour of the home side.
