Two Donegal players are heading off on Aussie Rules trial

Two young Donegal footballers are going to Australia for a trail with Australian Rules club Brisbane Lions.

Jason McGee and Eoghan Ban Gallagher were central figures in Rory Gallagher’s Donegal senior team this year.

Cloughaneely midfielder McGee and Killybegs defender Gallagher (pictured above by Evan Logan) were also members of Declan Bonner’s Ulster winning Donegal U21 panel.

Gallagher last year broke onto the senior panel while McGee entered the senior ranks this year.

The Lions are one of the AFL’s most successful clubs and play at the 42,000 capacity The Gabba.

Previously, Michael Murphy and Patrick McBrearty were courted by clubs in the AFL, while McGee’s Cloughaneely clubmate Darren McGeever has also trialled for the sport in the past.
