ST EUNAN’S WARMED up for the Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure Donegal SFC with a routine home win over understrength Gaoth Dobhair.

St Eunan’s 2-20 Gaoth Dobhair 0-6

The side managed by Barry Meehan welcome Dungloe to O’Donnell Park this day week, while Gaoth Dobhair have home advantage in a make-or-break home fixture against county champions Glenswilly.

This afternoon in Letterkenny, the team managed by Barry Meehan and Eddie Brennan were very impressive in the first half, going in 1-10 to 0-1 ahead at half-time. The relentlessness continued in the second half.

The St Eunan’s management had the luxury of bringing on Rory Kavanagh at full-forward, with the likes of Conor Gibbons, Cillian Morrison, Niall O’Donnell and Conall Dunne already proving their worth. Gibbons finished the match with a fine personal total of 1-7.

Darragh Mulgrew slotted a goal in the eighth minute past Christopher Sweeney having been found by a square ball from Cillian Morrison after Conor Parke’s break forward.

Mervyn O’Donnell lost Neil McGee inside of 12 minutes to a shin injury having already had to plan without Kevin Cassidy, Odhran MacNiallais, Kieran Gillespie, Cian Mulligan, Daire and Naoise O Baoill, Gavin McBride, Michael Carroll and Peter McGee.

In truth there was a training ground feel with little or no intensity being offered by the out-of-sort visitors, although some of the St Eunan’s scores were extremely well worked.

Prionsais Gallagher’s score on 40 minutes for Gaoth Dobhair was their first in 30 minutes, adding to Jamie Reynolds’ opener.

On 44 minutes, Gallagher, the Gaoth Dobhair wing-back, was penalised for a foul on Jake Whelan and Gibbons sent Sweeney the wrong way from the penalty to move St Eunan’s 2-15 to 0-3 in front.

Whelan and Kavanagh both popped over twice apiece having come from the bench but all in all, it couldn’t really have been much easier for St Eunan’s.

St Eunan’s: Matthew Gallagher; Sean Hensey, Conor Morrison (0-1), Conor Parke; Caolan Ward, Conor O’Donnell (0-1), Barry McGeehin; Eamonn Doherty, Darragh Mulgrew (1-2); Oisin Toal, Niall O’Donnell (0-1, 1f), Michael Miller (0-1); Conall Dunne (0-1), Cillian Morrison (0-1), Conor Gibbons (1-7, 0-2f, 1-0 pen). Subs: Blake Forkan, Jake Whelan (0-2) and Rory Kavanagh (0-2) for Gallagher, Dunne and Cillian Morrison (half-time), Darragh Toal for McGeehin (40), Sean McVeigh (0-1) for N O’Donnell (51), Patrick McGowan for Gibbons (55).

Gaoth Dobhair: Christopher Sweeney; Ryan Kelly, Neil McGee, James Boyle; Jamie Reynolds (0-1), Danny Curran, Prionsais Gallagher (0-1); Eamon McGee, Odhran McFadden-Ferry; Michael Roarty, Daniel McLaughlin, James Carroll (0-1); Neasan McBride, Michael Roarty (0-1), Eamon Colum (0-2).
