Mona McSharry narrowly missed out on a third medal at the World Junior Swimming Championships last night.

McSharry, from Grange in County Sligo, swims with the Marlin’s Club in Ballyshannon, came fourth in the 200m breaststroke final at the Indianapolis University.

McSharry was just 0.2 seconds off third spot.

McSharry finished in 2:27.67, just behind Annabel Guye-Johnson of the UK.

On Saturday night, she became the first Irish swimmer to win gold at the championships. She was victorious in the 100m breaststroke, breaking the national senior record as she touched the wall in 1:07.1.

On Thursday night, she won bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

In just eight weeks, McSharry has won world and European 100m breaststroke gold, world bronze and European gold in the 50m breaststroke and European 200m breaststroke silver.
